[comp.sys.atari.st] Advice on 3D drawing programs sought

reeuwijk@dutentb.et.tudelft.nl (C. van Reeuwijk) (06/28/91)

I am looking for a program to draw 3-dimensional figures,
and that is able to show them from arbitrary points of view.

Desirable features are (in order of importance):
 - STe (TT?) & monochrome monitor compatible
 - Hobby budget (more than #150=$300=dfl600 will lead to much
   head-scratching)
 - Easy input of figures
 - Bug-free
 - Interfacing to Arabesque or other 2D drawing program
 - Fast
 - Splines. Considering the rareness of 2D drawing programs with this
I know this is idle hope. Arabesque calls its latest version
'professional' just because it has splines!

I prefer a program that allows input as 2D figures that are somehow
extended to 3D (extrusion, spin, or ideally deduction from two views
of the object) instead of programs that only allow the combination
of standard 3D figures, but I may have to compromise on this.

The programs that I am aware of are:
 - 3D-cad/cyber-studio. I am a bit confused by the enormous amount
of separate programs/packages in this line of products.
 - Master cad. Looks nice in the folder and the slide-show demo,
and worth a gamble considering the price.
 - 3D construction kit. I only saw this in a price-list of a mail-order
company. I have no idea what it does.

Any recommendations or dis-recommendations :-) are welcome.
Thank you in advance for any reply.
