[comp.sys.atari.st] Atari vs Amiga

azog@world.std.com (azog-thoth) (07/01/91)

Well... This may be considered not in good taste, but what the hell...
This is one mans testiment to Atari. Ive posted before about this, but
seeing the people touting how great the Amiga is, and how bad the
Atari is, and seeing that theres Amiga people who read this newsgroup,
it cant hurt.

Im fairly new to Atari land. I got a used 520STfm about a month or so
ago, and really liked it. Now I see all these message about the
Amiga, and said to myself 'Hey, the Amiga is a good machine, maybe
Ill switch over'

So I thought for a few days, and came to my conclusion. When I get some
spare case, Im gonna upgrade my 520STfm to a Mega STe :-) Being new
to the Atari way, Im easily swayed when people say all bad things about
the Atari, and all the good things about the Amiga. Fuck it. I like the
Atari, and Im gonna stick with it. The only reason Ill give up my
520STfm is so I can get some of the neato features that the STes have,
like a higher version TOS, and the like.

Amiga has multitasking, and Ill tell you right now: I _dont_ need it.
How can I be so sure? Well, put it this way. I work on a VAX 6220,
with 128mb of RAM and over 3gb of disk space. It has duel processors,
and can support over 200 processes. We dont have over 200 users, so
I cant say how good itll do over 200, but I suspect our VMS license
is only 256, so the point is moot. Anyways, compared to this, the
Atari _and_ the Amiga is a toy, OK? VMS is a real multitasking system,
fact.

Anyways, my point is this: why point out all the good things about
the Amiga, when most of the people in comp.sys.atari.st dont care?
I sure dont. Im gonna hang with my ST. Im sure that there were a
few people over the years who swayed towards Amiga, but look at it
this way, if theyve been Atari fans this long, what is gonna
make them go away now? Considering the huge investment in equipment
that most people have? I got my 520STfm and monitor for $250, and got
a cordless mouse for $100. If I find a cheap enough Mega STe, I can use
my monitor and mouse on that, so I figure that maybe Ive lost about
$100. Oh, Ive got an external floppy that can migrate too. And I might
even be able to sell the unused 520, who knows?

So anyone know where I can get a cheap Mega STe? :-)
