Thanks to all who sent mail concerning the Ultima problem. It appears that my friend and myself are not the only ones who have experienced problems with this software. Since my last posting, I also purchased the game. My friend called Origin Systems and they said that the shopkeepers will say "Honesty is a virtue, I will not trade with you" only if using a copy of the original disk. So, now he waits as he sent his original back to them. For those of you who havn't screwed up your original yet, DON'T WRITE TO IT ANYMORE! Heres how to make a backup. First, copy you Ultima disk. After you done this, boot the game with the ORIGINAL. The game will check to make sure it is the original while booting. After the message <PRESS SPACE> appears, remove the disk and put in your copy. Put the ORIGINAL away. You won't need it until you need to boot the game again. Put your copy in and proceed to enjoy the game! If only my friend had known this before destroying his one and only original, as the game write to the disk constantly. Hope this info helps... BTW, I bought Defender of the Crown as well, and I see no way to avoid using the original. (You can use a copy of Reel One, but not two). At least you can leave the write protect on... Oh well. Marauder II from Discovery Software will backup Defender of The Crown and, in fact, deprotect it. I would assume it does something similiar with Ultima. So after backing it up, you can copy the whole thing into a two megabyte ram drive and run it! (I've done it with my ASDG ram disk - some of the text screens go by faster than you can read them!). I think Marauder is a great product and should be purchased by all Amiga owners concerned about being able to make backup copies of the (often expensive) software they have purchased. I know I was worried about using my original Defender disks the first week or two after I bought the game, and it cost ~$40! Look for Discovery's ad in the latest Amiga World (love their comparison chart!).
