bobb@tekfdi.UUCP (Robert Bales) (12/11/86)
1.2 is here. At Clackamas Computers in Portland, Oregon, it arrived on 12/5. Of course, when I went in on 12/8, they were sold out. But if you paid your $15.95, they gave you copies of the disks. Also, I saw a short demo of the sidecar. Short, because at $795, and with the requirement that it be alone on the bus, I wasn't too interested. As many IBM windows as you want ( I saw two color windows, both with flight simulator and one monocrome) can be open. NOT multitasking, of course. One window active, others frozen. But "Amiga" windows multitask with sidecar windows. Claimed 20% faster than PC. Directory listing was fast. Seemed to compare favorably with AT hard disk. This was a demo unit only -- 1 day at each of two stores. I don't know when "for sale" uniits will be here. When I want in, one of the main people from the store was back in West Chester. He is supposed to return by 12/12 with, "if at all possible," an armload of genlocks. I don't know if this was based on information or was just wishful thinking. (When I first ordered my Amiga, I was told genlock would be out in December. Nobody said '86.) Bob Bales Tektronix, Inc. I help Tektronix make their instruments. They don't help me make my opinions.
