<<<<<>>>>> (from the author of the first FORMAT question comes...) Question: When in 1.2, the FORMAT command formats a track, then says it is Verifying that same track before moving on to the next track. Is this a good verify? i.e. if there is a bad sector would this verify fail and tell me that I can't use this disk? Can someone who has a bad disk try this and let me (us) know? Thanks for responding to my last question, and this one too... Bob ---------- ... ihnp4!pur-ee!beatyr <- usenet ... beatyr@ed.ecn.purdue.edu <- arpa-net ... beatyr@pur-ee.UUCP <- UUCP ----------

Yes, FORMAT will catch a bad floppy when it verifies. That is how I
have caught bad disks in the past. After getting burned on one disk,
I started formatting all of them before using DISKCOPY. I caught a
couple of bad floppies this way, but then I got lazy (in a hurry!)
and skipped the format step, sure enough, I got burned again.
Since the AmigaDOS DISKCOPY is unreliable, would someone consider
writing a suitable replacement?
