Just out of curiosity, and my pardon if this is a naive question, but what's wrong with the Amiga RGB monitor? Mine doesn't have too much problem, except for the standard interlace flicker... nj <borrowing c78kck@irishmvs.BITNET>

Amiga monitor... Are there complaints about the Amiga monitor? It is made by Sony, and should have good quality control. However...one problem (that had Comm- Amiga complaining apparently also) was the presence of only one speaker for a computer with a stereo sound design. Also, some say the early Atari ST monitor was sharper, but that is no longer the case. Other problems?... Well, mine crackles now and then until it gets nice and warm, and the image blanks out very briefly. Other than that, it looks pretty good to me. Colors ...ok, clarity of text...ok. Cost...could be cheaper. Looks cosmetically pretty nice. Do keep in mind too that some of the image is the responsibility of the Amiga, which frankly is not MEANT to be too sharp. That is because the video system was designed to work with tvs too, so there is a teeny bit of compromise. As for HAM mode flicker...any under c. 800 dollar monitor will probably do that. You have to get a high persistence monitor, but then you lose good high speed animation. Basically, it's always a tradeoff. Bob Dickow, egg-id!ui3!dickow :

The Amiga monitor is made by Sony? Maybe yours is, or maybe this is a rumor, but mine is made from Toshiba parts. I took it apart to see about mounting an internal fan (not enough room), and the CRT and PC boards are all made by Toshiba. It looks like it would be fairly simple to mount another speaker inside the cabinet, but you'd have to handle the second audio amp (and its input) yourself. I wound up putting a 3 1/4 muffin fan on top of the vent slots with weatherstrip tape. The Amiga monitor was getting too hot for my tastes, and this litte fan cooled it right down. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but an ounce of prevention.... -- ================================================= "The Admiral is well aware of the regulations..." ================================================= Blaine Gardner @ Evans & Sutherland {ihnp4, decvax}!decwrl!esunix!blgardne 560 Arapeen Drive Salt Lake City, Utah 84108 (801) 582-5847
