Alright, alright. This discussion is going too far! Why are we choosing between having one icon file per data file (which is slow) and one icon file per directory (which makes moving files difficult, plus having integrity problems if the two get out of step)???????? Look, each file in the system has a header (I don't know what it all contains, but it certainly contains the name, size, address on disk, extent info etc.. PLUS at least a label field). I don't know whether the header sits in the directory or at the start of the file or both, but it doesn't matter. The point is that there is a header per file. So, the answer is simple, the .info "file" belongs in the header! What is more important is that a lot of times we don't need a .info, but it should still have a default icon and a default tool, so we can manipulate it in Workbench!! I know people are debating whether you want all the files show up in WB or not. I think that you want to start with the premise that everything shows up under WB, then find ways to hide it (I would go for a convention like Unix "ls" & "ls -a", but not more obtrusive than that). Doing less makes WB useless. I still haven't figured out how to create a .info file. True, I haven't taken the time propagated. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Godfrey Lee, Cognos Incorporated, 3755 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA K1G 3N3 (613) 738-1440 decvax!utzoo!dciem!nrcaer!cognos!glee -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
