[comp.sys.amiga] iffencode with display?

adp@hp-sdd.HP.COM (Tony Parkhurst) (12/30/86)

I decided to use iffencode with the ray traced displays so's
I wouldn't have to wait so long for the display. However, 'display'
doesn't seem to allow me to go back to the working window so that I
can invoke 'iffencode'. Running iffencode so that it prompts:
'Put screen in front and hit return', doesn't seem to help.

What is the proper procedure for doing this with 'display'. It
seems that someone mentioned doing this on the net. (perhaps someone
modified 'display' to allow you to put the screen behind the others.)

We converted the ray-traced pics to IFF with "Grabbit" by
Discovery Software. It is a hot-key activated screen saver/dumper.
No screen flipping required.

I've succesfully done this WITHOUT 'Grabbit', using 'saveiff', though
I can't remember where I got saveiff, I think it may have been on a
local BBS. It will save the 'highest screen' after 5 seconds once you
tell it 'go'.

I may have slightly modified the ray tracing pic display program though,
I don't remember. The one problem I had early on was that once you
click back on the original screen (the one you're trying to save) the
menu-bar would be re-painted over the picture, and thus saved out with
the file.

I think what I did was to setup the display program so that there was no
visible menu bar, and then use the Amiga-m and Amiga-n keys to switch
back and forth. I now have all of the 320x400 HAM images converted
to IFF and a 'showilbm' type display program that will work with them.

Don't forget the Amiga-m and Amiga-n keys for switching screens when you
don't have move-to-background boxes on the menu bar. I use them all the
time, sometimes even when I do have the menu bar boxes, just out of habit.
