cultures of the imagination
Contact is a national academic conference which brings together some of the
nations foremost scientists, science fiction writers, and artists, to exhange
ideas and explore possibilities about humanity's future. Our goal is to
encourage a serious and creative interdisciplinary speculation guided by
the principles of science. Those of us who have devoted our time and
energy to Contact want to promote the integration of human factors into
research and policy as we enter the space age.
Be part of this academic dialogue between the experts and enthusiasts,
with Mischa Adams, Darrel Anderson, Poul Anderson, Paul Bohannan, Ctein,
Keith Doyle, Jim Funaro, Al Harrison, Joel Hagen, Howard Heard, Jim Hogan,
Barbara Joans, Richard Johnson, Mary Mason, Larry Niven, Jonathan Post,
Jerry Pournelle*, Reed Riner, Greta Rose, Bob TyzzerIII and others.
Expect to see a merging of the arts and sciences in every way imaginable.
Demonstrations and presentations of some of the latest inexpensive artist's
tools such as various sound and graphics software for the Commodore Amiga
computer, utilized by artists and scientists who combine their talents to
make use of such tools in ways you've never seen before.
Interact with the experts and brainstorm on various subjects such as
'Space Settlements', 'Encounters With Alien Cultures', 'Potential Alien
Physiology', 'Interpreting Alien Communication' and many more.
