---- Ever since the publication of a letter glorifying the Apple IIGS over the Amiga in the letters to the editor section of a Bay Area Computer magazine "Computer Currents," letters in defense of the Amiga have been pouring in --- In the last issue they printed four and in this issue they printed three letters concerning the original letter --- and all letters have been for the Amiga. It's great! I liked one letter from this past issue (Vol 4, Number 18, pg 17): (quoted without permission) "I was terribly excited about Apple's long-awaited announcement of a IIGS motherboard upgrade for my IIe. My excitement, however, evaporated when I computed how much this "upgrade" would cost me. [goes through the price calculations] "So what does my upgrade scenario cost? Only $1625 plus tax! Maybe they should call the IIGS the IIG$. It is really a shame that Apple feels it can rely on it reputation, instead of value, to sell this machine. "As for me, I gave my IIe to my son and followed the example of Walt Disney Studios, LucasFilms, and Lawrence Livermore Lab: I bought an Amiga for less than what I would have paid to upgrade to the IIGS, which is not as fast or as sophisticated as the Amiga. "James Edwards, Hayward." Ali Ozer, ali@navajo.stanford.edu ps. In the same issue, Computer Currents reports that Commodore's earnings for third quarter of the 86 fiscal year (ended Dec 31) is between $19.1m and $22.3m, and that they're selling 150,000 Amigas/year.
