I do not know what you mean by better custom chips, but it is possible to make a Video card with higher resolution or more colors. It would require emulating functions performed by the copper and bliter in hardware or software with glue to make them look like the "real thing". One could start with one of the new graphics chips from TI or intel for instance. >How could better graphics be accessible from software This is in some ways easier to do on the Amiga then on other PCs/workstations. Graphics and screen functions are accessed through the graphics, intuition and layers library. Video card makers would need to supply new libraries. For more complete compatibility most of the unique graphics capabilities of the Amiga would need to be emulated in HW or SW. >...the highest-res graphics mode defined or the Amiga is 640 x 400? PAL Amigas released in Europe have about 512 lines in y. I open windows on non-custom screens with the maximum window x and y usually set to 4096x4096, anyone implementing super-bitmapped screens? -- Rich Miner !ulowell!miner Cntr for Productivity Enhancement 617-452-5000x2693
