[comp.sys.amiga] file system bottle necks

dale@amiga.UUCP (02/21/87)

This is a follow up to the MAS-20 drive report
The speed of hard disks in general is not up to par on the amiga.
The problem has been traced to the file system handler. We are
working on a bew file handler that lays the blocks out differently
on the hard disk. It won't be available for a couple months, we
want to get all the kinks worked out.

So please do not base all your opinions of hard disks based on the
speed up them compared to floppies. The floppy file system, driver
has been optimized, unfortunately that same structure is not
so great on a hard disk. We do pay attention to problems and
are striving to correct them.
