Recently I've heard a rumor that the Los Gatos facility of Commodore-Amiga will be closed very soon. Dates I have heard are either March 1 or March 31 (depending upon which doomsayer I've heard it from). For those of you that are new to the Amiga, it was originally developed here in the Silicon Valley as an independent company before acquisition by Commodore. Since then Commodore has chipped away at the staff here to the present state. I've heard that the only reason the Los Gatos facility wasn't closed sooner was to get the new chips "in the can" for the new machine. Anyone at Commodore care to comment on this? In particular, I'm interested in where the ongoing development of the new controller chips will be conducted. (Nearly everyone "knows" that custom silicon "never" works perfectly the first go-round :-) ). Also, does this mean that the new amigas talked about on the net are to be supported via the "european connection" or have more engineers been staffed at Westchester over the past year? Another "wild" rumor floating about states that the new machines were designed in Germany, any truth to this? --rick -- DISCLAIMER: The foregoing is the result of a brain frazzled by the effects of insufficient sleep and a noisy phone line, and in no way reflects the opinion of my employer, friends, or enemies. I'm not even sure I really wrote it. UUCP: {decwrl, pyramid}!sun!cti!frazier DDD: 408-734-8533
