References: I posted a question asking for an explanation of why I observe excessive seeking behaviour when downloading large files. A few of you responded with "Hey bozo! Just download your files to RAM:!". Well, that only works for files that can fit in memory. I only have a 512K Amiga, so downloading a LARGE file requires going direct to floppy. During a download, the first 70K just hums along beautifully and then for the rest of the download, the disk seeks like crazy and the transfer rate drops accordingly. This happens on old disks and also on freshly formatted ones. I do not expect a fix for this, but would just like to understand why the filesystem behaves in such a bizzare fashion. -- Phil Cohen (phil@scubed.arpa, sdcsvax!phil)
