[comp.sys.amiga] two disk drives not perfectly in alignment

grwalter@watmath.UUCP (03/22/87)

When a disk drive prepares to write to a disk does it do anything to
ensure that it is correctly aligned with what is already on the disk ?

I am asking this because I just found out that my external drive is
aligned slightly differently from my internal drive. (It wouldn't format
some cheap disks that the internal drive had no problems with).

This is just my curiousity speaking, as I will be getting the drives
aligned right real soon.

One comment :
if you write on a disk from one drive and then from the other and ...
(ie. repeatively from both drives) eventually the differences in alignment
will cause the disk to not be read by one drive. ie. BINGO bad disk and
lost data.
(At least this is my hypothesis, as this is what has happened to me).
