[comp.sys.amiga] Vizawrite - WOW!

pbrody@udenva.UUCP (03/28/87)

cently spent an hour or so at Progressive Peripherals and Software here
in Denver. I was really impressed! They are clearly going to be the #1 Amiga
software producer in the near future. One of the most terriffic things I saw
there was a late Alpha version of Vizawrite, due out sometime in the next few
months.

Please sit down.

Vizawrite is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! It is extremely versatile and yet extremely
powerful but still user freindly. It uses WYSIWYG and lets you add graphics
in IFF format with simplicity. It can have multiple windows and you can
decide whether you want a ruler bar displayed at the top of the window or not.
The system uses proportional scroll gadgets and uses Intuition in the standard
way (thank God!).

Further more Vizawrite incorporates Mac like menus and requesters that are
easy to understand and not visually cluttered. Vizawrite permits differnt
type styles, and I think, different fonts as well. Vizawrite also has internal
printer drives that are supposedly better than the workbench's and Vizawrite
supports interlace, if you want it, for people w/ HR monitors.

I was impressed and I think that Vizawrite will be worth the money. And it
will accept Textcraft files so the conversion isn't that painful.

P.S. I hear Textcraft + is in Beta Testing - does anyone know what it is like ?

Paul, if you're listening out there, could u provide a few more
important details about Vizawrite?

1. Will it fit comfortably in 512K? (And I do mean
*comfortably*--I've already gotten burned by at least one program that
was advertised to work in 512K but in reality only managed to start up
before running out of memory.)

2. Did you get to see how the output looked on any of the dot-matrix
printers in standard Preferences?

3. Will a Postscript back end or other support be available for laser
printers?

4. Is there a page preview mode to view an 8 1/2 x 11 inch page of
text and graphics on the screen? (PageSetter has this useful
feature.)

There was a review of Textcraft Plus in a back issue of Amazing
Computing.  It seemed functionally similar to the old Textcraft;
the major difference being that it now runs inside an Intuition
window on the Workbench screen. It will also support headers and
footers. But given the capabilities of Scribble!, Prowrite and
now Vizawrite, I wonder why Arktronics bothered to spend two
years developing Textcraft Plus.

BTW, VizaWrite had *better* be pretty good, since Prowrite is
already shipping, and (from what I've heard) ProWrite is going to
be a tough act to beat.
