I am wondering if there is a program out there that will take a screen and digitize it and put the corresponding data into a file, instead of to a printer, so that the picture can be sent to another machine and then print it on that machine's lazer printer. The machine I want to send it to is a vax 11/780 running UNIX(r) and a QMS (I dont know the model number)lazer printer. If someone has a program that saves the picture to a file, how does it save it? using gray scales? how would be the best way to print the file? any ideas???? thanks for the help(in advance) mike(r) Mike Reilly SUNY/Buffalo Computer Science csnet: ugmiker@buffalo.CSNET uucp: ..!{nike|watmath,alegra,decvax}!sunybcs!ugmiker BITNET: ugmiker@sunybcs.BITNET, acsscott@ubvmsa.bitnet

I haven't seen anything that will do this. If you had an Amiga printer driver for a compatible printer, you could select SERIAL printer in Preferences, and connect a terminal with serial file capture facilities to the Amiga's serial port. Then do an Amiga screendump with something like GraphicDump on Workbench 1.2. The compatible screendump data would be captured to a file on the terminal, and could probably, with little or no modification, be sent to the other laser printer. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Carolyn Scheppner -- CBM >>Amiga Technical Support<< UUCP ...{allegra,caip,ihnp4,seismo}!cbmvax!carolyn PHONE 215-431-9180 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

On a similar subject, has anyone out there produced a printer driver that will write its output to a file? I only have a Canon1080a at home which is a S-L-O-W printer but produces great looking output in color. What I want to do is redirect someone else's program's print to a file so I can upload the file to a VAX and print there. I've recently come across a pretty neat disk cataloging utility on a local BBS (object code only). I'd like to write it's printer output to a file and upload it to the VAX for printing on a high speed line printer. Unfortunately, like many Amiga programs, they're just calling the dumb dumb one-size-dosen't-fit-anyone-but-the-original-author canned print, not allowing for things like printing to a disk file. Or are there other hacks that will get this kind of job done? (somehow redirecting serial device output or something like that)? That's the ticket, how about a loopback plug on the serial port and a second CLI with some sort of 'copy ser: foo.txt' command (yuk!). Or maybe I can dial up the vax, do a 'cat >foo.txt' and then bail out of my terminal emulator, load up the other program (assuming I don't have to reboot) and do the print with printer configured as a generic serial. When it's done, re-fire up the terminal emulator and type a ctrl-D. (yuk too!). Sigh... Just trying to get from A to B.
