The Amiga 1000 sends a couple of it's power supplies out the parallel port for the benefit of devices like digi-view. If you want to use such a cable you need to disconnect a couple pins so you don't short those supply outputs to ground (this is what hurts the amiga). I made up a little wizzo cable about 2 inches long which doesn't pass the two power pins. Check the Amiga simple docs (the 3 ring binder thing) for the pinout of the parallel connector. Good luck !
