[comp.sys.amiga] PUBLIC DOMAIN

Netters,
This might sound ANTI "shareware - public domain" software

IT IS NOT, it is just a thought I had one day after looking through a BYTE

magazine wishing the Amy had the amount of software that IBMpc(yuck!) does.

I use alot ,and swear by, much of the public domain software written
for the Amy that I get over the net, but if I didn't know about the net, I
wouldn't know about the "commercial-quality" software available to the public.
I feel that in a sense the non-commercial aspect sense of the Amiga software
developers is in one way hurting Commodore-Amiga in the area of attracting new
Amy owners. When most people look for a new computer they look for a computer
with the tools and power to do what they need done. The Amiga has the POWER
(as we all know !!!), but the public does not see ads from MATT DILLON, STEVE
DREW, DAVE WECKER, LEO, !!!FRED FISH!!!, to show the people that the AMIGA has
the tools needed to do anything.(and we all know it can do ANYTHING!!!!)
*******************************************************************************
DO NOT GET ME WRONG I AM NOT EVEN THINKING WHAT YOU (the names mentioned above)
ARE DOING IS BAD, AND I HOPE YOU DON'T READ THE LETTER THAT WAY. I think the
work you all do is great and very valuable to the users. AND think the Amiga
would be DEAD if we did not have your work........so please no (cruel) FLAMES
*******************************************************************************
I am NOT one to criticize(and I am NOT) the great work of the developers
that make thier products free to all those who want them, but maybe the idea
that was brought up on the net lately(devware) would help the Amy find more new
homes in the world if she got more press. I am not sure if I would rather pay
nothing for software and alot for hardware(because not many people own the
machine I own), or pay more for software, less for hardware, and watch the
popularity of the machine go up.

JUST a thought I had tonight, and I was wondering what the rest of the
Amy lovers thought about it. We all love free software, but would it help
the AMIGA more if whe got more press ???????????

Please answer, e-mail if you could, Post it if you must, but I really would
like to know if anyone feels the same as me???(if this is how I feel I am not
sure ????)
