Hi Everyone. Excuse me, this is my first posting to the net. Ive got an Amiga 2000, and have had it for about 3 Weeks now. Im in the United Kingdom, and have the German built machine not the West Chester design. Over here , the A2088 bridge board is an optional extra, and i dont have it, because i dont want or need PC compatability. (And its not available here yet). Anyway, on opening up my machine, i find that there is a board in the processor slot, this contains 0.5Mbytes of ram, and a further 0.5Mbytes of empty sockets. The main board only contains 0.5Mbytes ram. Almost the first thing i did was to go buy 16 * 256k D-ram chips and plug them into the empty sockets, and play about with the jumpers on the board until the extra .5Mbytes appeared. I found out that the ram was mapped at C00000 to CFFFFF using ROMwack and a terminal. Now , what i want to know is - Is this truly fast ram, or is it slow/fast ram ? And what happens to my nice 1Mbyte of ram, when Commodore bring out a 68020 board. ?? Also back a bit , someone suggested to Perry to post to North America only. Please-please continue posting to UK aswell, otherwise we wouldnt have the ASDG RRD. ( $10 coming soon Perry. ) , and its great to know what is available for the Amiga, as it is possible for us to get stuff brought over from the USA by friends/relatives etc. Thanks Richard Almeida.

It is truly "fast" ram. > And what happens to my nice 1Mbyte of ram, when Commodore bring out a 68020 >board. ?? You get to use it for a wall hanging. Seriously, the A2000 was originally designed as an A1000 with the 256K memory expansion built in and room for memory expansion on the expansion bus. The presense of the 1040ST made it bit silly to have a "high-end" machine with only 512K. Rather than redo most of the main board to cram in the extra memory, the Germans elected to make a simple/cheap memory card to plug into the "MMU" connector. The same card, with the addition of a suitable header connector is intended to work with the Amiga Sidecar, which is the main reason for it having provision for 1MB total memory. -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|seismo|rutgers}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@seismo.css.GOV Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)
