Actually Peter you should probably get an Amiga 2000 which comes with
1 Meg, and add the Janus board (PC co-processor) so that you wouldn't
have to port any of the MS-DOS programs you could just run them.

Now if that is too expensive you could get the 1000 with something like
the Allegra ($299 w/512K) to plug in the side or the MicroBotics
Starboard II (~$300 w/512K depending on where you get it) and it
can have another 1.5Meg added to it and a clock + 68881 when the
multifunction module is available. You could port your MS-DOS programs
or run the Transformer and be amazed at how slow they can be run.
(It is currently not officially possible to run the Transformer under
1.2 so it won't run out of the Box on the 500)

Or you could save the most money and get a 1Meg 500 and use your TV
set or a cheapo monochrome monitor. System price will be about
$900 ($649 + $150 + $100 (monitor)) less $100 if you use your TV.
You would definitely want to port your MS-DOS programs in this case.

I believe neither the 500 nor the 2000 comes with a composite video output
(future option on the 2000). Hence, neither is suitable for video recording.

I help Tektronix make their instruments. They don't help me make my opinions.

Both the A500 will have optional means for obtaining composite color output.
For the A500, a module that plugs into the video connector, for the A2000,
a board that plugs into the video slot.

You could get ntsc output from the 500 or 2000 with a professional type
encoder. Cost should range from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
Not really sure about the low end price. I would expect that when the two
products hit the market somebody will develop a reasonably priced encoder.
