"Blitz" is a text viewing utility that can be called up with a hot-key. It opens a one bit-plane screen and lets you load up files and look at them. (You can also strip CR's high bits, etc and save). It is very fast displaying text in it's screen. "BlitzFonts" replaces the system Text with a routine hardwired for the 8*8 pixel topaz.font. It is very fast. You see the most improvement with matt's DME editor. Also noticeably faster are large pull down menus. Non topaz-80 fonts are handled as always. The CLI TYPE and COPY commands have a lot of overhead due to DOS and BCPL, the language they are written in. It is poor measure of blitz. Use DME.. (it's on a FISH disk or two and has been posted to this net) If you send in your $10 it is claimed that you get a version that will work with any 8*n fixed-width font and will speed up BOLD text as well as normal. Both are written by Hayes Haugen 11303 S. Dogwood Edmonds, WA 98020-6168. Both are "shareware" with a better version for $10 (each). Just to complete the picture Hayes also makes X-Spell, a spelling checker that costs $15. All three products are top-notch. -Bryce@cogsci.berkeley.EDU- Disclaimer: I hardly know myself, so how could I claim to know this guy?
