[Mike Meyer's watch really does have windows, honest!] Well fellows, now the news we've all been waiting for, for the past 12 years or so (well, it seems that long). Orders for the fabled Amiga-LIVE! video grabber well be taken, starting Friday, May 29. This comes from Arthur himself, as announced at last nights BAADG meeting. To order, call 1-800-626-9541 in California, and 1-800-452-4445, extension 1156 at both numbers. THESE LINES WON'T BE UP UNTIL FRIDAY, MAY 29!! So don't try calling until then. Huh? Whats that? Oh, the price, yeah, it'll be $295 big ones. It won't be shipping for several weeks yet, as they are still working on the production lines. It is a buss end, due largely to the availability of the case, which CA had produced for another product. It would've cost about $80,000 to retool for another case, but because of the limited market you can see that it would've raised the cost significantly. Besides the normal expected driver software, you'll be getting an amiga library of user functions, to aid further software developement. "We are in the business of making hardware, not software" the red-headed engineer stated. System internals, both hardware and software, will be fully documented, along with some sample source code. Both Arthur and Wendy were reluctant to explain the delays, but said that they were able to get a contract modification to permit them to make and sell the Amiga 1000 version. A-LIVE! is able to digitize lo-res, 32 color video at 12 hz, and HAM images at 5 hz (for low level, "tune up" quality, better quality will take longer). They didn't have the high-quality HAM software available for demo, but said that it was "comparable" to Digi-View. A special effects package is in the works, and should be available at release time. LIVE! was also tied into Genlock for some very strange effects. Genlock gave us the full screen video from the camera, and live produced a color- distorted ghost image on top of that. There was a feature in the LIVE! software which let the user select which color from the pallet that the Genlock image would show through.
