I had my hands on a A500 last weekend, at Winners Circle in Berkeley. The machine has a very solid, well built external appearance. The keyboard feeling was good. The unit I played with was made in USA. Although the unit has a different version of WB 1.2, it has the same feeling and touch of an A1000. The price, I was told, was "about $700", but don't know whether it is the price for a strip machine or with some other accessories with it. The general impression about the A500 was very impressive, as it can has the same kind of graphic, processing capability as the A1000 but with a higher bang per dollar ratio. The machine was well built, and some components of the A500 and A1000 (i.e. external disk, monitor) are compatible (seems to be anyway, I was not able to unplug the external drive to connect to an A1000 ). It should be a killer if the appropriate marketing effort is given. -- David Lo (415)939-2400 /\ o Varian Instruments, 2700 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 \/ {ptsfa,lll-crg,zehntel,dual,amd,fortune,ista,rtech,csi,normac}varian!davidlo
