It seems to be fashionable to bang on CBM Support these days. Frankly, I don't see value of contributing net bandwidth to bashing a group of people providing a benefit to the community at large on their own time and bashing them for things they weren't responsible for. Who among the bashers has gone to West Chester and visited with the Support staff? You haven't experienced mayhem till you have. Veritable seas of yel- low post-it tabs. Constantly blinking phone lights. Little cubie offices and I might add not too many people to fill them. I've been there (many times) and can tell you that their workload is so high that going to the bathroom means someone's call won't be returned. The only thing that flaming CBM support will accomplish is upsetting or putting off the parties responsible for better support. This seems counter to what a CATS-basher is trying to accomplish. I believe that Usenet postings often find their way up the management chain to levels that CAN act on problems cited from the community at large. Think about it, you're an upper level manager with problems of your own. A flame from Usenet comes across your desk - what do you do? Will it incite you to action - to fix the ills that plague the universe? Probably not, you'll wonder why your staff spends so much time on Usenet. In summary, I ask that flames to the net about CATS be rethought by the authors just ONE more time before sending. Will your flame ``inflame or inform?'' BTW: this plea for moderation comes from a champion flamer. After 8 years on Usenet I have begun to see that flaming here accomplishes little real worth and upsets a lot of good people. I second Perry's plea. Please stop the flames. I sincerely haven't seen a better tech support staff than CATS bar none. They have been helpful to "real" developers and usenet users alike. Note also that usenet is not their only network. They are on BIX, Compuserve, you name it. -- Marco -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Marco Papa 3175 S.
