A religious community I am acquainted with has a 16,000-entry mailing list database, stored on single-sided single-density floppies by an IBM System/6, which seems to be a simple turnkey database system. Each record is composed of fields, like "title", "address", "postal code", etc (some fields are empty); there are facilities for searching, editing, printing, etc. They now have a PC-compatible, and need some way to get their data from the S/6 floppies to their new system. The software they are using on the PC-clone is something called the "SMART" system, which appears to be an integrated word processing/database/etc package. They have a brochure from one California company called "CompuData", which claims to support S/6 SSSD floppies. It's not clear, yet, what the converted data will look like (ideally it would be a "SMART" database of some sort). If you know of any companies that do these kinds of things, I would appreciate hearing from you. WANTED: company names, addresses, summaries of your experience with them (if any), advice, opinions. I am not a subscriber to these newsgroups, so please mail your responses directly to me, Liudvikas Bukys <BUKYS@ROCHESTER.ARPA> (rochester!bukys in UUCP-land)
