[] It seems like Pagesetter (not the international version) has great difficulty printing using any printer drivers other than the ones on its own disk - and even difficulty with those! I tried to print using the HP laserjet+ driver from the Pagesetter disk, and it gives "printer preferences not appropriate" error. And booting off another disk causes the same error when you try to print. Does anyone know what is going on with the Pagesetter preferences? They seem to want you to use nothing but the Epson driver it is initially set up for. The fact that it is a 1.1 Workbench is of no help, I'm sure, but moving it to a fresh 1.2 Workbench with all printer drivers set up correctly doesn't help a bit. This is very annoying when trying to convince people that the Amiga can produce good output; any help would be appreciated. ----------- As far as the moderated groups goes...well, it looks like I'll be posting that ultrafast mandel program to comp.sys.amiga before too long, unless circumstances interfere. My own personal opinion is that the end justifies the means. I am only on a student account, which will no doubt disappear one day, and I am farther away from the site of most Amiga activity than the average netter. However if people were sending their stuff to me, it would be distributed to thousands of happy Amigoids in a short time, no hassles or delays. I'm sure most of you reading this would be able to say the same. So as long as it works, what's the problem? (This should in no way be seen as an invitation to start flooding my mailbox with sources and binaries, although *I* wouldn't complain :-). I know that the full Mandelbinary did get to Doc, although I've seen no sign of it on the net nor received confirmation from him himself. Looks like that drain on the old phone bill was for naught. Here is some info about pagesetter that I received from a friend... set preferences to the following: b/w mode custom linefeed single-sheet feed (to make it easier to position) horizontal threshold should be 7 or 8 now to print.... first...do your document AND save it. (be sure to be in workbench to make it easier) quit the pagesetter program. now, using workbench, open up the windows that pagesetter "pageprint" resides in and open up the window that your document is in. click once on your document and hold down the shift key and double-click on the pageprint icon. you should get a fairly decent printout. (the pageiff function is a neat way to convert the pagesetter document over to an iff file that dpaint2 can use... the result? faster printing, you can change the size, add colors,etc...) Have fun... The problems you are having with the Pagesetter program and the drivers is that the THRESHOLD is set too high. Drop it back down to 2 (two) for adequate printing. I went through the same problems several months ago and thought "Oh, what a piece of junk!" But it happens to be the amount of intensity that PAGESETTER can handle per a printed page from the Amiga.

John; Gold Disk is aware of the problems with PageSetter, here's how they say to correct it: 1) All printers in Preferences must be set to B/W in the Printer Type screen. 2) DON'T USE PageSetter itself for your printouts..instead, use PagePrint (which doesn't have some of the bugs that PageSetter has). PageSetter's printer controller is borken, the one in PagePrint is supposed to be OK. 3) Write to Gold Disk. They'll send you a disk with a newer agePrint and PageIFF files on it, along with some help on PageSetter itself. DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with Gold Disk. in article <3732@garfield.UUCP>, john13@garfield.UUCP says: > Keywords: Laserjet 1.2 Pagesetter CMD, sources binaries > > I tried to print using the HP laserjet+ driver > from the Pagesetter disk, and it gives "printer preferences not appropriate" > error. And booting off another disk causes the same error when you try to > print. Go to Preferences and set the Monochrome print mode, not color. That's what it's complaining about. I use it all the time, from Hard Disk, and via the MPS-1000 print driver. Another useful thing to try with PageSetter is the PagePrint program. There's a bug in some print drivers that causes a raster line or so to be skipped between consecutive dumps of RastPorts. When you print a page from within PageSetter, it sends that page as several RastPorts, even if you have lots of memory. If you instead print the document with PagePrint, it's printed as one big RastPort. Plus, you have the advantage of being able to do a "Run PagePrint Doc1" while you use PageSetter on Doc2. > John -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga Usenet: {ihnp4|caip|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh "The A2000 Guy" BIX : hazy "These are the days of miracle and wonder" -P.
