Keywords: I just read through the article on hard disk drives in the latest AmigaWorld (July/August). Two comments: 1. Why can't any of these bozos make a hard disk drive that looks nice? The only decent-looking drive in the group is the Xebec. The rest, especially the SupraDrive, look like a prototype mock-up, plus they all have their *hideous* logo on them (especially C Ltd.). I'd hate having to look at one of those things sitting next to my machine. 2. The authors mention "In many cases, if you have the memory to spare, you can improve disk performance further with the AmigaDOS command ADDBUFFERS." Since AddBuffers is only meant for floppies, I wish the bozos at AmigaWorld would take the time to check the accuracy of their articles. The rest of the issue is somewhat worthwhile; they have articles on Pro Midi Studio, DMCS, and Sonix, plus Rob Peck's audio stuff. I just wish they would learn how to format C code readably. The biggest faux pas of the issue has to be the little blurb on Suzanne Ciani, an electronic musician. While glowing all over about how she uses an Amiga to control a bank of synthesizers for a live performance, there is a Macintosh plainly visible in the background of her photograph. -- Mike Portuesi / Carnegie-Mellon University Computer Science Department ARPA: mjp@spice.cs.cmu.edu UUCP: {backbone-site}!spice.cs.cmu.edu!mjp BITNET: rainwalker@drycas (a uVax-1 run by CMU Computer Club...tons o' fun)

I was all hot on the XEBEC controller at WCCF til I saw them crash it repeatedly "copy all"ing from one drive to another. It seems that they had a little problem there. So when the show closed I wandered over to the Supra booth and asked John if he really wanted to cart all those drives home... I got a modest deal on it and am reasonably happy with it. (Especially since they've rewritten the driver and gotten even more speed from it.) <@_@> UUCP: {cbosgd, hplabs!hp-sdd, ihnp4}!crash!gryphon!pnet02!jdow INET: jdow@pnet02.CTS.COM
