[comp.sys.amiga] LESS unnecessary Workbench request

leivian@dover.uucp (Bob Leivian) (08/10/87)

I just fixed an annoying little problem that was just pointed out to
me in LESS. I never ran across it and none of my friends had either
but on a single disk system (ya' mean you don't have two!) LESS makes
an unnecessary request for the workbench disk.

After some digging I found out why, manx's getenv is stored in a library
called "enviroment" that is checked on the "lib" disk if you haven't
set up any variables (all my friends and I use env variables so it never
showed up for me). Manx take note --- your runtime should set up a
dummy lib the first time it is called, that way it won't request the
WB disk for time 2 thru n.

Anyone writing programs using env variables should be aware of this for
single disk systems without the 'set' program

BTW: I fixed LESS and Fred Fish has a copy if you need the update (1.2)
