It has been pointed out to me that my posting of my opinions on the relative merits and or value of Sun equipment is a) Gross Commercialization, b) Not my place as a lowly programmer, and c) Generally not a 'Good Thing'. In the future I will restrict my postings to Amiga technical information and as few flames as possible. I apologize for those I may have offended, I will answer questions about Sun via email (assuming I can get a reply back) Bitnet sites are sometimes impossible to get to. I happen to be interested as I am posting this through a Sun from my Amiga. Yes, my Amiga is attached (through a 9600 baud serial line with DBW's vt100) to a network that has a lot of Suns. The Amiga has some good roots in the Sun environment. I am particularly interested in Sun's doings as far as NFS and NeWs goes. I'd love to be able to talk my employer into getting me an ethernet card. That way I wouldn't need a hard disk on Amy. I'd have lots and lots of GBytes out on our local net to play with!! Well, for as long as I'm here, anyway. Crass commercialism I can do without... but keep that useful (to some of us anyway) info coming!! Disclaimer: I like Sun equipment. I think they're doing a good job. I don't work for Sun or own any of their stock. I just wish I did. -- Kevin McBride |Disclaimer: My | harvard -\ insert name of company | employer don't want | ll-xn ---adelie----> munsell!klm and address here. | no steenkeeng | decvax -v talcott -v | this space for rent. | opinions from me. | allegra ------------encore

Your posts are no more crassly commerical than mine. You have, of course, been dodging the essential issue of whether Sun (goodness or badness adjectives applied) is willing to permit binary distributions of "News" for systems other than those of Sun's choosing, or whether Sun intends to follow a course of more narrowly defined self-interest. I, of course, never dodge issues. 8-) -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|seismo|rutgers}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@seismo.css.GOV Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)

Chuck, if you got flamed for dispelling rumors and mis-information going about *HERE*, in the Amiga group, pertaining to NeWS, I suggest you ignore the AssHo*es. The subject was brought up *HERE* by *AMIGA* readers! Why should you get flamed for answering the questions? You didn't offer the subject up yourself? *OTHERS* did. All you did was answer questions as an 'in the know' person (well you work for them anyways). That's like somebody asking a question about the cost of an Amiga 2000 and the CATS people (who've been rather quiet latly) giving them the answer. So what? As long as they did not offer up an answer *without* a question, they are NOT (nor were what I saw posted by you) commercial. Lets rename the group to comp.sys.computer-made-by-company-based-in-Westchester -PA-that-is-beige-in-color-and-does-nice-graphics-using-custom-lsi-chips. That way it is NOT commercial.
