Right now we're hearing a lot of "the big guys are squashing the little guy". I find myself wondering what people would be saying if Leo had created an animation of a juggling unicycle FIRST. And then Pixar saw that idea and incorporated it into a longer demo called "Red's Dream"? Then it would be "the big guys are ripping off the little guy". But what's the difference? I suspect that many of us are judging the situation on a David-and-Goliath basis. Don't get me wrong: I'm not siding with Pixar; in my opinion, protection of work and ideas is a difficult question, and I'm not sure what would be the best approach to this sort of situation. What I'm commenting on is the quick and vehement judgments that have been displayed, even to the point of advocating economic reprisals. P.S. To prove my good will to Leo, I hereby invite him to dinner at my home in San Francisco. (formal dinner -- cape required).
