I am looking for a good source for 1 megabit memory chips for an Allegra 512Ke board that I bought a few months ago. The price was right and I works flawlessly with my internal 512K hack with Dave Haynie's "Autoconfig" hack. To upgrade the Allegra board to 2 megabytes requires one new chip from Allegra ( a PAL or is it an EPROM??) and of course 16 1 megabit ram chips. I know Allegra sells an upgrade kit for $329 but thats over $23 per chip. Any help would be appreciated, John Youells UUCP: {ihnp4!crash, hplabs!hp-sdd!crash}!gryphon!pnet02!jyouells INET: jyouells@pnet02.CTS.COM

For mail order, try Microprocessors Unlimited (918) 267-4961, or perhaps Jameco at (415) 592-8121. These places have pretty good reputations and more or less reasonable prices, but don't be surprised if you find Allegra is offering a pretty good deal. Persons living in the Silicon Valley area may be aware of local sources and perhaps better pricing, but my tentacles don't reach that far... -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|seismo|rutgers}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@seismo.css.GOV Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)

I'd be surprised if you can find chips for less than what Allegra is selling. Of course, you should also watch for Allegra's prices to go up about $100/megabyte. At least that's what ASDG's prices did (or so I've been told). <1 Megabit DRAM's are still quite expensive and a bit hard to find. Their price on megabit chips last week was $26.50/chip quantity 1 - many. <mike
