[comp.sys.amiga] "Real Time" Clocks

peter@sugar.UUCP (Peter da Silva) (09/03/87)

It seems to be happening to the Amiga, too. People are calling clock/calendar
chips "real time clocks".

The "Microherz Timer" (which in itself is a misnomer) is a real time clock...
a clock that interrupts running programs on a real time basis. A clock/calendar
device is a "Time of Day" clock, or just a "Clock/Calendar".

Usually it's also a "digital watch chip".

As for the Microherz Timer... a microherz is a million second long period. What
they should be calling it is a "megaherz" or "microsecond" timer.
