It seems to be happening to the Amiga, too. People are calling clock/calendar chips "real time clocks". The "Microherz Timer" (which in itself is a misnomer) is a real time clock... a clock that interrupts running programs on a real time basis. A clock/calendar device is a "Time of Day" clock, or just a "Clock/Calendar". Usually it's also a "digital watch chip". As for the Microherz Timer... a microherz is a million second long period.
