[comp.sys.amiga] Copy Protection via manuals

strovink@sscafit-ab.arpa (Mark Strovink) (09/09/87)

I deleted a lot of lines about Silent Service and copy protection.
This is the part I wanted to respond to:

>Sorry, I just don't see _any_ reason to remove "keyword from manual"
>protection except piracy.
>
>Kent, the man from xanth.

You never leave a manual at a friends house? Or spill drinks on
things? Have you ever seen a manual win a confrontation with an
'adorable' teething 7-month old? None of my manuals have won yet
(they must taste better than plain newspaper). I guess nothing ever
'disappears' at your house?

When I have a few minutes I can kill on the Amiga, I don't want to
spend them trying to find the manual. I tend to enjoy programs a lot
more when I only need the manual as a reference (hopefully a dusty
one).

"keyword from manual" protection annoys me less than other methods.
However, most software has enough bugs/features in it that I do NOT need
more aggravation from copy/pirate protection. Marauder II does the
honest user a favor (not to mention pirates, *please*). Try to
imagine multi-tasking if all of your programs wanted you to have the
manual handy!

Oh heck. Marauder II is a tool. How anybody uses it is out of my
control. Should we ban disassemblers, disk editors, and Xeroc
machines?

What a neet idea, keyword copy protection! Just think, everry program should be
like that! Then, every time I go to compile, I type:

LC <filename>..options...
And it says:

Please enter Word 16 on Line 74 of Page 842 of Book 6....
(And these %$#@$!'s always list things in the wrong order word/line/page rather
than page/line/word)

OR

EDIT file.c
please enter word....

How about:

Insert workbench
Enter word....
