I recently purchased an HP Laserjet II for my AMIGA 1000 and interfaced it through the parallel port using the same printer cable that I have been using with my Epson JX-80 and Silvereed daisy-wheel printer. I have not been able to get anything out on the printer except for the test pattern which comes out off-line and not from the AMIGA. I have the printer set up correctly in parallel mode, and I have Preferences set to use the HP_LaserJet_PLUS driver and parallel port under Workbench 1.2. I've tried to print from CLI by doing a COPY to PRT:. I've also tried from Notepad, Scribble!, and City Desk (which includes its own HP driver and specifically supports the HP). I either get the "Printer Trouble" window which says "Check Printer or Cable", or the machine just hangs up. I also tried the serial port using my modem cable and had no luck with this either. It appears to be a cable problem, but this implies the need for different cables for different printers. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP FROM ANYONE WHO HAS SUCCESSFULLY USED THE LASERJET II WITH THEIR AMIGA. Thanks, David J. Miller Sandia National Labs P. O. Are you sure that your printer really has all the guts to do parallel interfacing and not just the connector. It seems to me that the parallel port was an extra option on that printer. I recommend talking to the parallel port directly to see if you have any communication going on between the AMiga and LaserJet. Try 'copy * to par:' and then a couple of lines with a carriage return followed by a CTRL-L to eject the paper. Another thing that you can look for is a blinking light on the front panel of the printer whenever you hit return. This blinking light signifies that data is being received by the printer. If you have a serial cable, try hooking it up and repeating the above BUT use 'ser:' instead of 'par:'. Good luck!

I have a HP LaserJet Plus attached to my Amiga 1000 via a Belkin
Components (Hawthorne, CA on Rosecrans Ave) cable which appears to
be a standard parallel printer port interface cable (i.e. it appeared
to be the same cable as the one I used to attach an Epson EX800
to the Amiga). HOWEVER, my LaserJet Plus has Option 300 installed, which
is a socalled Centronics parallel printer interface. I'm not familiar
with the new Series II LaserJets, but it sounds like HP makes a
distinction between a "parallel interface" and a "Centronics parallel
interface". HP tends to have lots of interface and cable combos. Hope
this helps. BTW: Once I got my interface-cable-dipswitch settings
worked out, the LaserJet works fine using Workbench 1.2, Preferences,
etc.

As soon as we do, I'll hook it up and tell you how I did it. Hope you can wait till then.
