I went for the A1000-A2000 trade-in/buy back deal and have happily
surrendered the 1000 to my daughters who are busily trying to crack
DNA codes or some such. After a week, I had need to move some files
off an Amiga disk onto a PC-DOS disk to take to work. I have a home
brew 5 1/4 external (ex PC Tandon TM-100A) that did the job just fine
on my 1000, and works fine in 440K Amiga mode on the 2000. BUT any
attempt to run PCCopy fails after a bvrief 'clunk' from the drive, and
PCFormat fails with a cryptic error -4!. Had a similar problem with a
similar unit I built for a friend that turned out to be the index line,
which apparently is not used in Amiga mode. SO.... drag the drive over
to the 1000, plug it up, fully expecting the same problem...and bingo
it works fine on the A1000.
Has anyone else run PCcopy/PCformat on the A2000 with an external drive?
Any hardware types out there care to suggest a place to start looking ??
and, does anyone know what the *#*%T error -4 is ???
