I finally got a chance today to see the "Amiga 500 Test Flight" Video tape. Most all dealers should have it by now. It's 18 minutes long and quite a good production. I think any non-Amigoid will be very impressed by it, hopefully enough to want to buy the 500 (or even the 2000) after viewing it a couple times. The thing that impressed me most is that the images on the tape fly by very quickly. It is NOT slow, boring or dry. It's an dymanic production with a LOT of animation, music, graphics, and gives a very good sense of what the Amiga can do by showing off some of the best software out there, and some of the best artwork created with that software in a real machine-gun hi-tech display. The hardware itself is briefly described but not dwelled upon... no dry talk of floppy disks and printer cables, but rather an almost constant barrage of imagery of programms running, grouped by fields of interest (art, video, productivity, education, games, music). The images range from the very old (if 2.5 years is "old") ballet dancers to the very latest Videoscape animations, genlocking, and all the way up to software which isn't even released yet. The Test Flight is sure to bring a smile to any Amiga owner's face, and will also hopefully serve its purpose as a dynamic sales tool to convince those who are teetering on the edge of a purchase that the 500 is the machine to get. There are a couple sorta hokey scenes involving a guy working with some music software that go a bit overboard with facial reaction shots, but other than that, it's an impressive effort. The 500 television commercial, if you've seen it, is a tipoff as to what the feel of the Test Flight tape is like. Good going, Commodore folks.
