I just got an A2000 and I've been playing with it some and I noticed that when I clicked on the Trashcan the >empty trash< menu item didn't become enabled.... hmmm... so I decided to delete the stuff brute-force, and so I did shift-select on all of the stuff in the Trashcan (which was now visible since I had just opened it) and did the for-real "delete" menu item. You might have noticed the slight flaw in the above: in addition to the stuff IN the trashcan I had left the Trashcan, *itself*, selected. And, sure enough, the #@$%@# thing deleted the Trashcan! What's wrong? I don't think it is anything really dumb that I did, because I'm working straight off of the WB disk (actually, a copy of it, of course) that came with the 2000. (although I noticed that the Trashcan on my Extras disk had the same non-working property). Thanks /Bernie\ ps, I DID do a dumb thing, though, that I don't fully understand the ramifications of: by mistake (I was cleaning out icons I didn't want) I deleted the .info file for my WB disk. I didn't exactly know what to DO about that. How best to fix this little misstep? tnx /b\ Bernie Cosell Internet: cosell@bbn.com Bolt, Beranek & Newman, Inc USENET: bbn.com!cosell Cambridge, MA 02238 Telco: (617) 497-3503

The trashcan is not supposed to be an ordinary "drawer" type directory. Yours obviously was. You need to copy a REAL (galvanized iron, maybe? 8-) Trashcan icon onto your WorkBench disk. You must have one around there somewhere. Could be Commodore is shipping bogus Trashcans these days. Try an older disk, select the Trashcan, and see if the "Empty Trash" menu item gets un-ghosted. If it does, you've found a Real Amiga Trashcan. Copy it. It won't be deletable, and it will be "emptyable". -- Rick Lahrson ...tektronix!oresoft!rick Disclaimer: If I ever speak for anyone but me, I'll warn you in advance.

I don't think it is anything really dumb that I did, because It doesn't work, because we goofed when making the 33.59 Workbench disk. We put an icon of the wrong type as the trashcan. The easy solution...Delete your trashcan.info file (you did that already :-) ), from Workbench, initialize a new disk, and copy the trashcan from the new disk back to your workbench. (this will be an old style trashcan, though) The other solution ... I'll post a uuencoded correct trashcan.info icon, so your trashcan can still keep lookin' cool. andy >Thanks > /Bernie\ > >ps, I DID do a dumb thing, though, that I don't fully understand the >ramifications of: by mistake (I was cleaning out icons I didn't want) >I deleted the .info file for my WB disk.
