[comp.sys.amiga] How Should I Post This?

Okay. I would like to post my Killer Demo entry, "Marketroid", to
the Net. However, I am in a dilemma as to how to do it and not annoy the
net.gods.

Marketroid uses custom fonts, which must be present. Hence,
uuencoded binaries. However, I'd also like to distribute the source (since
I always do that anyway). Do I post an executable with fonts to the
binaries group and sources to the sources group? Or do I shar the whole
thing into one big file and ship it to one place? Or do I arc it?

In any case, we're looking at over 100K of stuff. Personally, I'd
prefer to arc the whole schmere, uuencode it, and throw it at
comp.sys.amiga. That way, everyone gets the whole package. I feel that a
shar file would be larger, even after compression by the news software.

So, I'm taking suggestions on how to post this thing correctly so I
can maximize the pleased users/annoyed net.gods ratio. Leave your votes in
my mailbox.

Gaak! I'd suggest sending a copy to Fred Fish, who's stuff managages to get
almost universal distribution and who needs to be kept distracted from his
Mac-II.

On the other hand, I don't see any real problem to posting both the source
and the binaries for the fonts to the sources group. The idea is to keep the
binary only stuff separate from the potentially transportable source code,
but I don't see any reason to get religious about some binary font images...

This seems like a good time to indicate how the BADGE Killer Demo
entries will be distributed.

First, I am sending a copy of everything I received to Fred Fish, for
inclusion in his library, completely at his discretion.

Secondly, I am making up four disks which have an install script to
make them bootable from a standard WorkBench disk, which will include
the top five demos plus whatever others fit (another five or so small
ones?) These will be sent to all those who donated money, and sent to
Commodore, who has indicated that they may distribute them themselves
to the dealers. I will also make these disks available to the general
public from me for some fee; perhaps $8.00. If anyone is interested in
these, please send me a note so I can get an approximate first count.

I will be sending all of the people who donated prizes the full
collection of demos.

Did I miss anything? I'm working on the disks again . . . (thank god
for Xicon . . .)

I have discussed the timing of this with Tom, since I have several other disks
ready for release and don't want to hold them up too long. What I will
probably do is go ahead and release the next batch of disks in the next
day or two, and then put together a new separate batch of disks when
I get the BADGE demo disks. I expect that the first batch should get
released sometime this week, and the next batch sometime next week or
the following week.

I think you originally were going to send a copy of the top 5 to all entrants,
but given the number of entrants that finally showed up that might get
expensive... How many actually made it before the revised Oct 7 deadline?
