Sometime during the next month I am going to purchase an Amiga and
I would appreciate a little advice before hand with a couple of
questions:
1. My plan was to get a 500 but would I be better off with
a 1000 (new or used)? The only advantage I see to the
1000 is having a detachable keyboard (which I prefer) and
a built in monitor stand (of sorts). I have heard the chips
in the 500/2000 are improved over those in the 1000, is this
true?
2. I alredy have a Sony Multiscan monitor which I use for other
purposes which I would like to use with the Amiga - can
someone help with cabling requirements (e.g. do I need any
damping resistors)? The multiscan is supposed to be completely
compatible with the Nec Multisync as far as it's electrical
requirements go so if you have the answer for the Nec that
would probably be just as good.
Eventually I would like to add a scsi interface to control a scsi<->qic02
interface and drive (which I already have) and a scsi disk (which I would
have to buy also). And of course more memory. Does anyone have any
suggestions on good manufacturers and/or mail order suppliers of such items?
Bear in mind I am a complete novice as far as the amiga is concerned so I
don't know what products are available (don't see much useful info in the
magazines I have looked at) or who are reputable suppliers.
Any information would be appreciated - thanks very much in advance!!
john (future amiga owner!)
