COMMODORE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED REPORTS PROFIT INCREASE FOR FIRST FISCAL QUARTER West Chester, Pa., Nov. 10 -- Commodore International Limited (NYSE:CBU) today reported a profit of $6.3 million, or $0.20 per share, on revenues of $173.9 million for the first fiscal quarter ended September 30, 1987. This represents a 70% improvement in net income over the same year-ago period, when the Company reported a net profit of $3.7 million, or $0.12 per share, on revenues of $176 million. Commodore's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Irving Gould, commented, "The results of this quarter reflect better margins stemming from a shift in product mix toward the Amiga product line, where unit volumes have increased dramatically over the year-ago period. This is attributable to the successful introduction of the Commodore Amiga 500 and the Commodore Amiga 2000 during the June quarter." Mr. Gould added, "Amiga product sales have been brisk. The enthusiasm for these products has been supported by a strong marketing effort, particularly in the U.S., where the Commodore Amiga 500 'Video Test Flight' program was launched, providing consumers with an informative 15-minute videotape presentation available at Amiga dealers to be taken home by consumers for viewing"" Mr. Gould also stated, "Complementing the strong showing of the Amiga line in the fiscal September 30 quarter were the strong sales in Commodore's line of PC-compatible computers." "Additionally," Mr. Gould noted, "we continue to be pleased with reports that the holiday season again could prove to be strong for the Commodore 64 product line." In concluding, Mr. Gould stated, "The positive results of the first quarter of fiscal 1987, coupled with a continued drive toward cost-efficiencies and aggressive marketing, should further Commodore's goals of increasing profitability and shareholder value." * * * -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|rutgers|allegra}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: out to lunch...
