just figured i'd tell everyone about a new goodie that i saw at the latest meeting of our Amiga Users Group here in Regina.... one of the club members has the Comspec AX2000 (2 meg) ram expander for his A1000, and received info from comspec about their hard drive... he ordered it because they were giving discounts to memory expander owners.. Well anyways its here and it is SERIOUSLY impressive... First of All, it autoboots... thats right , autoboots.... you turn on your amiga, turn on the hard drive and 30 seconds later you have the system running.... (it cycles through a different color code system to show whats going on... blue for kickstart, and a couple others i can't remember...) the auto boot can be disabled if needed.... The controlor uses one of the new fangled SCSI controllor chips for intelligent buffering and caching etc... also, if hard errors appear on the hard drive ,the drive doesn't need to be reformatted, instead the controller performs a substitution with a set of spare blocks..... The controllor also includes a RTC that sets the time automatically on powerup.... The hard drive chassis has a fan and a HUGE powersupply capable of handling two internal half height drives . naturally, additional SCSI devices are handled by the controller and any of them can be the boot device (based on how the info i have discusses it... Oh yeah, the controller passes the bus and we had no problems with any additional components attached to the system. (namely, an Insider 1 meg ram, the Comspec 20 meg HD and SCSI controller, and a Comspec AX2000 2 meg ram unit) Comspec can be reached at 153 Bridgeland Ave UNIT 5 Toronto Ontario Canada M6A 2Y6 phone 416 785 3553 Fax 416 785 3668 Jonathan Crone i have no affiation with Comspec except as an employee of a Amiga dealer that will likely be carrying the aforementioned device, and as a MORE than likely purchaser.
