Well, I decided to pay the bux to have 'em put it in a metal box. :)

For $1050 + A1000 serial number, you get a 2000 and keep your old A1000.
Helps to mention you're in a user's group, if applicable.
You send in a personal check for $200.00, when they have a 2000 ("a few weeks"),
you send in the remainder in money order or take it COD. They claim very
reasonable shipping rates ("about $7.00").
