First let me thank everyone who sent me email about the advantages of the Amiga over the ST. Even though I didn't post to this group, almost all of the mail I got favored the Amiga! It seems that the only favorable responses about the ST talked about the availablity of MIDI software and the built in MIDI port. Since I am planning to write most of my own MIDI stuff (with the exception possibly of a sequencer) the availability of commercial programs is not a huge concern to me. Actually, I would like to market my stuff, and it seems that it would be easier to get a foot in the Amiga software market. So I have decided that when the money comes along (soon I hope) I will purchase an Amiga 500. In planning for this, I have a couple of questions which I hope some kind person will answer: 1) What do you get for the basic price of the Amiga 500 ? (ie memory, drive, etc) 2) What is the best configuration for development work with the 500 ? 3) What types of software tools/utilities will I need ? 4) The MIDI port itself; what kind of adapter/interface is needed ? 5) Books, manuals, documentation. Where do I get them ? 6) Magazines. What/where are they ? 7) I have a Electrohome RGB color monitor (2020 or something like that). Can I use this with the Amiga 500 ? 8) Other Amiga MIDI nuts; are there any out there ? 9) I currently access this newsgroup through the UNIX machine where I work. How can I get to it at home with my new Amiga ? Many thanks to all you folks. I find all of the articles helpful and sometimes amusing. Someday I will reach the LAST article! Right now I am about 600 behind ! -- Mar Tan : Write for details: MIDI Software for the C-64 Blue Ridge Music Software : o CZ Editor/Librarain o RZ-1 Librarian Route 8, Box N55 : o FB01 Editor/Randomizer o MIDI Data Analyzer Charlottesville, VA 22901 : o CZ Patch Randomizer o MT-32 Editor/Lib
