I just shot some pictures for a another person who is writing a magazine article about VGA (I know, those are fightin words). I'll give Amiga graphics an A- for having an [almost] NTSC 640*480 mode, and VGA a B for not having such a mode. What VGA does have, is a pretty good looking 640*480 mode that is noninterlaced. It sure was nice to look at a high resolution that you didn't have to turn the brighness down to almost NIL to avoid flicker. A lot of the uninformed masses think that my Amiga is broken when they see the flicker in the 640*480 interlaced mode. I sure would love to see some enterprising soul make a de-interlacer for the B2000 video slot. It seems like it ought to be a practical project since the chips exist for doing so. I've seen several VCRs and monitors now touting that they offer such circuitry. Since Commodore seems to have shelved the plans for any new monitors in the near future, it seems like the de-interlacer card is the way to go. Eventhough, according to George, the B200 is selling like hotcakes, the deinterlacer is probably the thing that would push me over the edge to commit to swapping up from the A1000. Microway (Cordage Park Building 20, Plymouth, MA 02360) is planning on
marketing just such a card. They are planning on both NTSC and PAL
versions. At Comdex, Don Greenbaum was anticipating having the cards
available sometime around the first of the year.
