[Hey babe, what's a nice girl li...chomp, munch, munch, gobble, crunch...] I just posted a request for noKLICKstart last week, and got response from several people, very fast... Thanks everyone! If only it worked... I uudecoded it, got a real executable, with a real help screen when I ran it. When I patched a freshly made backup of my KS1.2 disk, it had NO EFFECT. By system came up just fine, no complaints, but that DAMN NOISE was still there. I have a very old system (the custom chips are all dated from the last quarter of '85), with a very fast drive (when I run StepRate, I can drop my steprate to 1.2 ms with no data loss). My drive is also LOUD. Any hints or suggestions? Thanks in advance and may your camel spit nothing but dates. -ethan -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The .signature you have dialed is not in service in area code <614> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You were obviously sent an early version. A day after the first major release a new version with an expanded help screen was added. It says if your drives keep on clicking they are *INCOMPATIBLE* and you should stop using noKLICKstart. Sorry! The other possibility with that initial release is that your disk was write protected and the change never actually happended. Seems I was looking at the return code for the motor off rather than the write... |\ /| . Ack!
