[comp.sys.amiga] SubLogic Jet for the Amiga Summary: Screen shots described

sean@ms.uky.edu (Sean Casey) (12/01/87)

I just got issue #4 of the SubLogic newsletter. In it they say (in
small print) that Chris Green is putting the finishing touches on Amiga
Jet. This is all that they say about it in the newsletter.

They do have three screen shots from the program, though. The
resolution looks about the same as it does in the PC version. It looks
as if they have used a bit more colors.

The display has a large (approx 85 percent of screen) view window,
surrounded by instrumentation. The left side has a mach meter similar
to the PC version. The top has what looks like 6 annunciators on the
left, marked "G","R","B","C","F","M", and "E", some jet symbols to show
remaining lives in the middle, and a digital score counter on the
right. The right side is an altitude scale that looks as if it scrolls
to follow a needle that points to altitude. At the top of this are two
boxes. One has a big arrow on in marked "DIR", and the other looks
like a cross hairs. My guess is that this is some kind of targeting
aid or radar device. At the bottom of the screen are, from right to
left: Weaponry indicator, G-force indicator (digital readout), fuel
remaining, two red buttons (these might be readouts, the newsletter
doesn't have enough contrast for me to tell, the labelling looks like
"throttle" and "thrust"), a digital clock, and a rolling compass
heading indicator.

They have kept the heads-up blue/green attitude indicator, a feature
which I really liked from the PC version. They have also kept the
circle targeting device.

The first screen shot is of a low altitude attack on a nuclear plant,
complete with low buildings, cooling towers and nearby river. The
second is a night scene where all the instrumentation has been turned
off except the right hand altitude indicator, which is superimposed
upon the scene rather than in a window of it's own as it is in the
other shots. In this shot the 3d window fills the entire screen. A
grid shows the ground, and the night sky is complete with stars. The
third shot is a low altitude pass upon an enemy missile cruiser ship
that is just leaving the docks. It looks identical to the ships in the
PC version.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and ask them:

When they expect to begin shipping.
Expected turnaround time on orders.
If it has a two player mode, and whether players duel or team up.
What kinds of sound effects are used.
