[comp.sys.amiga] Question on open device/writing your own libraries

rminnich@udel.EDU (Ron Minnich) (11/26/87)

I am going nuts trying to get a simple thing in internet.device to work.
The problem is OpenDevice. It used to work, now does not. I get a return error
of 0 when the device is there, amon shows it, and all seems well, but ...
my open function in the library is no longer getting called!
   So, my question:
Is there any flag or element of the iob that would cause OpenDevice
NOT to call the open function in your device library? How about
something wrong in the library? The MakeLibrary function returns ok,
as does AddDevice, so i have confidence that the device gets installed right.
But when i run a program to open the device
my open function does not get called! But
NO error gets returned from OpenDevice!! This is driving me nuts!
    HELP!
Please email directly as i am losing track of comp.sys.amiga

Boy is this guy a dope. He does not even know that you have to
load a4 to get to the right things. sheesh. flame flame.
So forget he asked that silly question.
Anyway, i am almost ready to start testing internet.device.
I can create and delete TCP ports, now on to the reading and writing.
Sure wish i could get to do this full time, instead of .5 hour a night.
This machine is a lot of fun!And yes, all you 3.03 owners,
GET LATTICE 4.0!!!

We don't really need this kind of stuff on the net, do we? What good
does it do anyone to uselessly attack another individual that you
do not even know?

Be nice...

I'm David, not Archie, don't have my own login yet..."

well, actually i know the guy pretty well, since he was me.
I.E. the OpenDevice question and the 'flame flame' reply were sent by
one person, me, Ron Minnich.
That message was a sort-of flame joke. Hmm, had i known i would
generate this kind of misunderstanding .... !
Anyway, internet.device is ALMOST working. I have a telnet that runs
as an independent program. The biggest problem now is getting a handle
on how to properly handle sessions. But almost there. First thing
i port is gonna be rcp, so i can easily copy the source back up and
post it!!

P.S. Anybody out there wanna do RFS?? or better yet, RFS:?

Sorry, Ron, I guess it's ok to call yourself a dope ;-};-}

Due to lack of smileys, I think you should look again at the two
postings. Close examination reveals that the 'dope' and person calling
him a dope are the same. In other words, he's flaming himself publicly.

I believe Ron was quoting and "attacking" himself.
