[comp.sys.amiga] World of Commodore Show in T.O. - a short review

ehoogerbeets@wateuler.UUCP (12/07/87)

This is a short review of what was there, and my subjective opinion
of it.

Commodore hosted its "World of Commodore" show in Toronto from
December 3 through 6. Commodore itself was well represented, as well
as various user groups and local vendors. Attendance seemed to be
very high, which I would think was because of the new 500/2000
releases this year, and it was successful.

One highlight of the show was that the Toronto Pet User's Group (TPUG)
invited Fred Fish up all the way from Arizona. He gave some lectures
and appeared at the TPUG booth at various times. I saw his talk on
Saturday, and it was quite interesting to hear how he does his
collecting.

Most major software companies had a booth. Word Perfect had an impressive
display of all their products to one side, and others, like Electronic Arts,
also had representatives at the show. [Interesting rumour: EA is working on
an flight simulator *specifically* for the Amiga, ie NOT a port, that should
be ready sometime early next year. I can't wait!!!] Very Vivid had a
demonstration of the Mandala system going, which delighted passers-by
as they inadvertantly created some effects on-screen.

User groups were well represented. There were some from T.O. (TPUG),
Hamilton (Ontario) and even one from Cleveland. The complete Fish
library from TPUG and other collections from the other groups were
available for the mere price of a floppy.

Demonstrations of the spiffed-up C64 and 128 as well as the
Commodore PC-10 and 20s were given and a surprising amount of
software and accessories for these machines was available at
rediculous prices. Hardware for the Amiga was also quite cheap.
[I got suckered into buying another floppy for my 2000]

Commodore itself had a huge display of every one of their currant
machines and copious amounts of staff on hand to answer questions.
They were swamped anyways!

Altogether, I'd say I was quite impressed with the number of Amigans
on hand and how the number of us is growing. It was quite enjoyable
and well worth the trip to T.O.
