I'd like to see an addition or redefinition of the PROTECT flags for AmigaDOS that would allow the CLI/SHELL/CONMAN/AREXX or whomever examine the flags such as in Un*x and if a file name is given as the command, and the file is actually an execute (or whatever) script, then EXECUTE would be called to do it. Since nobody has paid much attention to 'rwed' so far, I'd suggest that 'e' or 'ed' only (without 'rw') could mean executable-script since most programs now have 'rwed' protections set across the board. A suitable alternative might be to assign another protect flag, such as 's' for script-file. I do realize that a program can go in and recognize that something is not an object module just by examining the first few bytes or perhaps trap the error caused by LoadSeg and decide that maybe it was a script file after all. But it would be better to be able to tell up front that this is what the user really meant to do. (Sure wish my Amiga was where I am now so I could check that someone hasn't already included this capability in one of the shell-alternatives). Just a suggestion. Rob Peck ...ihnp4!hplabs!dana!rap
